Abstract

IFI 16 is a member of a family of interferon inducible proteins including the human MNDA (Myeloid Nuclear Differentiation Antigen), the recently identified AIM-2 (Absent In Melanoma) proteins and the homologous murine p202, p203, p204 and D3 proteins. IFI 16 contains a UNAbinding domain capable of binding double stranded DNA at the aniino terminus and a bipartite nuclear localisation signal. IFI 16 is expressed in myeloid progenitor cells and in mature lymphocytes, and monocytes but is not expressed in neutrophils or granulocytes. When fused to a GAL4 DNA binding domain IFI 16 can function as a potent transcriplional represser of CAT reporter plasmids containing GAL4 binding sites upstream o..
