Abstract
Preliminary study on works by Rupert Bunny in the University of Melbourne Art Collection hasfocussed on the examination of ancillary material (such as sketchbooks, photographs and looseleaf drawings), and microanalytical and technical visual examination of a number of oil sketches and finished works, to determine characteristic materials and methods used by the artist. This paper examines evidence regarding the development of Bunny's work including changes in his method of depicting form andworking with paint, and presents the initial findings of the project.
