A universal collection of literature on the European war? State Library Victoria's Great War pamphlets

Despite the disruption of postal services consequent on the outbreak of war in 1914, the Trustees of the State Library of Victoria implemented an ambitious plan to obtain a substantial volume of pamphlets and monographs dealing with the Great War. This article examines the dimensions and success of this plan, with regard to the quantity and character of acquisitions, and speculates on the values that guided the policies of both acquisition and public access.
