Abstract

Various aspects of the social characteristics of emerging technologies, which may be inherent or attributed by users, are discussed. The Internet has changed the internal workings of the society and social structures and provided grounds for debate on its negative and positive impact on the society. Human Computer Interface (HCI) has contributed in moving the society closer to the vision of widespread access to technology and computer resources. The society needs to work to have a better understanding of the social and design issues before the technology arrives to turn them into social and design opportunities.
