Isogeometric analysis of functionally graded plates based on a new polynomial displacement field

Abstract

In this paper, an efficient computational approach based on a new Polynomial High order Shear Deformation Theory (PHSDT) in conjunction with isogeometric formulation is proposed for the bending analysis of Functionally Graded (FG) plates. The material properties of FG plates are assumed to vary through the thickness direction following the power law. The principle of virtual displacements is exploited to derive a weak form based on the displacement fields of the PHSDT. The proposed PHSDT naturally fulfill the free traction boundary conditions at top and bottom of plate and naturally overcome shear locking phenomenon.
