Abstract

Full length radio documentary for ABC Radio National, Earshot. Jane Dyson has been visiting the remote village of Bemni 2003. During this time she's seen many changes. Bemni is a rural community in the high Himalayas. It has it's own dialect, farming tradition and songs. In the last ten years Bemni has become more connected to the wider world. There is now a road and mobile phone reception. Health and education have improved. But every change comes at a price. In this mountain climb Jane catches up with some of the young people whose lives she's been following. In particular this is the story of a girl with an extraordinary voice whose singing career has opened up a whole new life.
