Managing the use-phase and embodied energy consumption to achieve sustainable network growth

Abstract

We present a model to understand the interdependencies of the contributing factors in the sustainable growth of communication networks: (i) network operational energy, (ii) network embodied energy, (iii) network traffic growth, and (iv) energy-efficiency improvements.
