Abstract

Measurements of velocity and concentration fluctuations for a horizontal plume released at several wall-normal locations in a turbulent boundary layer (TBL) are discussed in this paper. The primary objective of this study is to establish a systematic procedure to acquire accurate single-point concentration measurements for a substantially long time so as to obtain converged statistics of long tails of probability density functions of concentration. Details of the calibration procedure implemented for long measurements are presented, which include sensor drift compensation to eliminate the increase in average background concentration with time.
