Rigorous treatment of the BCS model of superconductivity

Abstract

The authors show that the variational theory of Bardeen-Cooper-Schreifer (BCS) is exact for the BCS reduced Hamiltonian for attractive pair potentials which satisfy reasonable conditions. Specific forms of the pair potential are used for illustrative purposes and to provide explicit proofs of some of the more technical details.
