Rapid preparation of porous Fe2O3/SiO2 nanocomposites via an organic precursor

Abstract

A rapid and simple method was developed to prepare porous Fe2O3/SiO2 nanocomposites by combustion of stearic acid precursors. The composites were characterized by FTIR, XRD, and BET specific area measurement. The results showed that the composites were porous, and the porous structure was dependent on the content of SiO2. The resulting composites impregnated by H2SO4 showed good catalytic activity for the esterifcation of acetic acid and butanol. © 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
