Abstract

On the broadest level, motivation may be viewed as a dynamic process involving the selfsystem), the social system, actions, and outcomes. According to a process model from Connell, motivation develops in a continuous, non-linear fashion. As children encounter and engage in learning opportunities, the self system and social system constantly interact to influence actions and outcomes. In turn, actions and outcomes modify the ongoing influence of self and social systems.
