Abstract

Measuring the electric-field-induced resonance frequency of nanowires and nanotubes as cantilever beams has become a popular method to derive their elastic modulus. However, this method is sensitive to the experimental uncertainties of the clamp point conditions. In a preceding paper, we found that such uncertainty could lead to 30%-70% errors of the derived elastic modulus and then we proposed a tunable resonance method as a remedy. In this paper, we implement the tunable resonance method in experiment. The fundamental resonant frequencies of a Si nanowire cantilever stimulated in an electrical field are measured with an extra support localized at different positions along the nanowire. Our..
