Abstract
The value of gene expression profiling, or microarray analysis, for the classification and prognosis of multiple forms of cancer is now clearly established. For colon cancer, expression profiling can readily discriminate between normal and tumor tissue, and to some extent between tumors of different histopathological stage and prognosis. While a definitive in vivo study demonstrating the potential of this methodology for predicting response to chemotherapy is presently lacking, the ability of microarrays to distinguish other subtleties of colon cancer phenotype, as well as recent in vitro proof-of-principle experiments utilizing colon cancer cell lines, illustrate the potential of this metho..
