Abstract

Introduction Ventricular hypertrophy is an adaptation that is necessary as part of natural growth. It may also occur in response to increased resistance to blood flow (pressure‐overload) as seen in hypertension. The Hypertrophic Heart Rat (HHR) is a model of pressure‐overload cardiac hypertrophy in the absence of hypertension and is thus suitable to study genetic components of pathological increase in cell size without progression to heart failure. Several genes are implicated in the cardiac hypertrophic pathway, which are regulated by microRNAs. The regulatory potential of microRNAs can be exploited to manipulate the expression of target genes. Mor..
