Improved efficiency for recapture studies from auxilliary experimentation

Abstract

Recapture studies on heterogeneous populations contain very little information about the unknown population size, because of the non-orthogonality of the heterogeneity parameters and the unknown population size. If a known number of the population can be studied separately then the improved inference on the heterogeneity parameters leads to more precise inference on the size of the main population. For illustrative purposes, the simple behavioural model is studied and the efficiency gains quantified for the new design. The theory of estimating functions is used to derive the efficiencies. © 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
