Abstract
The analysis and design of composite sway frames for seismically induced loads, depends on the strength and ductility of the connections, and of the members adjacent to the joint. However, one of the difficulties in using this type of construction is the problem of how to connect concrete-filled circular steel columns to composite beams without site welding. A proposed connection is presented. This connection represents details used to transfer the tension or compression component of the moment in the beam, to the column. The end result will be an economically designed joint that may include some welding at the fabrication stage, but is essentially a bolted connection.
