Abstract
The Australian continent is within a tectonic plate and hence in a region of low seismicity in global terms. However there have been several moderate events of sufficient magnitude to justify a closer inspection of the detailing requirements specified in the Australian Standards for reinforced concrete structures. The aim of the research outlined in this paper and in the companion paper is to consider the probable behaviour of frames with wide band beams if subjected to moderate level seismic events. It will be a theoretical and experimental study of this type of frame. The focus of this paper is on the literature review of previous research and a description of the proposed experimental wor..
