Superelastic scattering of electrons from optically pumped sodium

Abstract

A series of laser-assisted scattering experiments have been carried out on the 32P state of sodium at an incident energy of 20 eV over the angular range 5-40'. The measurements have been made with the laser beam normal to the scattering plane. Alignment parameters derived from these experiments agree with data from electron-photon coincidence experiments but not with previous superelastic experiments. A recent four-state close-coupling calculation fails to predict the present results.
