Abstract

Colony‐stimulating factors (CSFs) and interleukins (ILs) have biological actions that are characterized by their pleiotropy (actions on several different cell types and at different levels) and redundancy (several different CSFs or ILs have similar activities). An understanding of these biological activities must begin at the receptor level, and studies so far have revealed a unique cellular distribution and unique molecular species for each receptor. However, these receptors can interact indirectly with each other (transmodulation), and most of the receptors have common structural elements in their extracellular doMayns. The data suggest that most of these CSF and IL receptors are composed ..
