Abstract

This chapter explores the concepts and methods of deliberate practice and quality assurance in standardizing simulated patient (SP) performance and the criteria for determining the 'assessment readiness' of SPs, when repeating the portrayal for multiple learners by one SP at one site or involving multiple SPs and trainers in multiple sites, on multiple occasions. It discusses key aspects of SP portrayal for assessment, including standardization. Roles and responsibilities of SPs are outlined and the SP as assessor is considered.
