Probing the limit of nuclear microscopy

Abstract

Nuclear microscopy is a technique with great potential in minerals and materials analysis. It works by using focused beams of MeV ions to perform high-resolution analysis and imaging. Thus, researchers at CSIRO are looking at the issue of how to improved dramatically the detection limits for indirect ion beam techniques, while at the same time producing high spatial resolution. Now, with a good dose of innovation and collaboration with the Microanalytical Research Centre (MARC) at the University of Melbourne, CSIRO has produced a new breed of high-energy ion beam microscopes.
