The influence of the turbulent/non-turbulent interface geometry on local entrainment

In this paper we examine the local entrainment velocity (vn) along the turbulent/non-turbulent interface (TNTI) to determine how vn is influenced by the local geometry of the TNTI. Time-resolved, simultaneous particle image velocimetry (PIV) and planar laser-induced fluorescence (PLIF) measurements were taken in the far-field of an axisymmetric jet at Re = 25300. We use isocontours of scalar concentration (Sc≫1) to identify the TNTI and implement an interface-tracking technique to determine the local entrainment velocity along the TNTI.
