Developing a repertoire for teaching biology

Abstract

In this chapter we describe the rationale and design of a biology method course for preservice biology teachers who are enrolled in the teacher education program at ICLON, Leiden University Graduate School of Teaching in the Netherlands. Before we provide a more detailed course description we will briefly describe the Dutch teacher preparation context. In the Netherlands, there are two different structures to prepare teachers for secondary education: undergraduate programs provided by universities of applied sciences, and post-graduate teacher preparation provided by research universities, like Leiden University.
