Abstract

INTRODUCTION The theme of the chapters in this book is the “interoperability” of intellectual property law in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region in a context in which harmonization of substantive laws is unlikely to be achieved in the near future. One way of understanding interoperability may be through the prism of the private international law doctrine of comity, which encourages national courts to respect and give effect to the laws and judgments of other countries in appropriate circumstances.
