Single-Ion Implantation for Quantum Computing

Abstract

Solid-state quantum computers promise new information processing functionalities. The challenge of building the two most essential components of a solid-state quantum computer, a quantum bit (qubit) and a qubit transport mechanism, can be addressed with proof-of-principle devices fabricated by controlled singleion implantation. One fabrication pathway employs single-ion implantation to place single-donor atoms with 20 nm precision in architectures compatible with available fabrication technologies.
