The body in (E)motion: Thinking through embodiment in legal education

Abstract

The piano begins to play. Susannah stretches out her arm, rising and falling to the cadences of the music, tracing the pattern of the dance she has created and now performs for the camera. In the ‘black space’ rehearsal room, Hari, Joanne and Yasmeen are practising a short play they have written: an imagined trial scene set within the plot of Shakespeare’s Coriolanus. They must perform it shortly in front of their tutors and peer group, and submit the script with a reflective evaluation of their performance as part of their coursework.
