From local to global perspectives, Part 1: A journey from naturopath to researcher

This perspective piece outlines a personal journey from naturopath to qualitative and health systems researcher, including experience working with the World Health Organization on integration of traditional medicine with national healthcare systems. It outlines aspects of natural therapies training and practice that enable the development of skills essential for qualitative researchers. The article provides insights that might be useful to natural therapists who are considering postgraduate study and research work. Part 2 of this article outlines the author's understanding of the basis of the World Health Organisation's support for traditional and complementary medicine.
