Abstract

World War I: Love & Sorrow opened at Melbourne Museum in August 2014. More than one million people have now seen the exhibition. Visitor evaluation has highlighted the emotional impact of Love & Sorrow. The University of Melbourne and Museums Victoria have undertaken a research project to understand role of emotions in the exhibition, and implications for future exhibitions and programs about war. The research was funded by a McCoy Seed Fund grant. Academics from the School of Geography at The University of Melbourne employed a method they previously used at a psychiatry museum in Rome, involving a combination of drawings and interviews.
