Practical issues in the design and execution of an emergency medicine research study

The planning and execution of a scientific research study can be a daunting prospect for the inexperienced investigator. This article attempts to break down the task into components, each of which can be conceptualized and executed independently, and makes recommendations for this structured approach. The article proceeds in a time-sequential fashion, beginning with the conception of the study and ending with the final publication of the study manuscript.
