Abstract

Diffuse catchment changes can cause significant variations to flow regimes. This is challenging because the source of the problem is spread across the catchment area, often involving multiple actors. In addition, there is often a temporal or spatial gap between the cause and resulting impact on the flow regime. This chapter discusses management options using farm dams, urbanization, deforestation, and groundwater use as examples. Potential management approaches include regulation, technical solutions, and collaborative management.
