Abstract

A self-consistent treatment is given for ion size effects, specific ionic adsorption, and discrete surface charge effects in the electrical double layer at a planar surface. Ionic interactions are considered in the Mean Spherical Approximation and specific adsorption is modelled by the sticky potential of Baxter. Analytic results include the surface charge-surface potential relationship, the adsorption isotherm, and a comparison with the surface dissociation model of Ninham and Parsegian. © 1980 American Institute of Physics.
