Free energies of inhomogeneous spatially dispersive media. II. Thin films

Abstract

Using a general formalism developed earlier, the authors calculate an expression for the free energy of interaction across a film or slab of spatially dispersive medium in contact on either side with dielectric. The result is expressed in terms of bulk dielectric properties. The Lifshitz or Debye-Huckel results are recovered in appropriate limits.
