Learning to Communicate

Abstract

In this chapter, we review and discuss the current evidence and future research agenda for educational interventions directed to health professionals and consumers to improve their ability to communicate with one another. As communication interactions between patients and physicians shift to reflect a growing emphasis on patient-centred care and shared decision-making, effective communication is increasingly important. Interventions that train or educate individuals to communicate more effectively in healthcare settings are frequently the topic of systematic reviews.
