Abstract

The record is for two creative works ('The Decade Positions' (2017) and 'September Session' (2016)) exhibited as part of a group exhibition titled 'dot, dot, dot [...]'. The exhibition seeks to provide a discourse about the ways in which contemporary Australian artists interpret the dot beyond the protective skin or screen used by Central and Western Desert artists and in ways which are non-derivative. Cattapan’s two paintings ‘September Session’ and ‘The Decade Positions’ layer pixel-like dots over a free-flowing background to depict scenes of conflict.
