Intensive youth outreach in mental health: An integrated framework for understanding and intervention

Abstract

ORYGEN Youth Health provides a unique mental health service targeting early detection and treatment for young people 12-25 years of age in the Western region of Melbourne, Australia. The Intensive Mobile Youth Outreach Service (IMYOS) is a subprogram targeting difficult-to-engage, high-risk young people with complex needs who are experiencing mental health difficulties. This report describes an integration of theoretical approaches: developmental theory, attachment theory, trauma theory, family systems theory, collaboration/coercion, and relationship management.
