Abstract

This chapter provides an overview of wellbeing policy in Australia and New Zealand (Aotearoa). We begin by highlighting the challenge that the term 'wellbeing', and its multidimensional nature, provides, particularly for policy makers, researchers and community development stakeholders. An exploration of wellbeing use in policy in New Zealand and Australia is then presented, along with critical comments on similarities and differences between countries. Examples are provided which demonstrate the usefulness of wellbeing policy. The chapter ends with the shared recognition of the impact of policies on health, wellbeing and equity.
