Abstract

The E −μ nonlinear model and its improved models are not applicable to soils with strainsoftening behavior and obvious dilatancy. In order to overcome the disadvantages of the above models, the rate of Poisson’s ratio is proposed, and it is found that, under triaxial shearing, the tangent modulus of unsaturated soils and the rate of Poisson’s ratio decay exponentially with the axial strain. Based on this law, a non-linear model describing the stress-strain relationships of unsaturated soils is proposed, which can reflect both the strain-hardening and strain-softening behavior of unsaturated soils, and also can describe the stress-strain characteristics of unsaturated soils under various stre..
