Abstract
A state-space reduced-order model for the fluid-structure interaction of a two-dimensional membrane at low and moderate Reynolds numbers is presented. The framework is obtained by coupling a reduced-order unsteady aerodynamic model for the fluid with a linear statespace model for the membrane equation. The aerodynamic model represents a low-order state-space approximation of the aerodynamic forces generated by the unsteady deflection of the wing. The pressure distribution on the wing’s surface and the deflection of the wing, both decomposed using a truncated Fourier series, represent the coupling terms between the aerodynamic model and the structural model, obtained from the linearized dynam..
