AbstractObjectiveTo report our experience with the use of continuous positive airway pressure therapy in acute cardiogenic pulmonary oedema in patients aged 80 years and over, with particular reference to complications, intubation rates, impact on resources and quality of care.SettingUrban teaching hospital.MethodRetrospective chart review of all patients aged over 80 years presenting with acute severe pulmonary oedema between 1 January and 31 December 1995.ResultsThirty‐nine patients met the study criteria of whom 29 (75%) were treated with adjuvant mask continuous positive airway pressure.
