Treating emotion dysregulation in internalizing disorders

Abstract

Dysregulation of emotions is a core feature of virtually all internalizing disorders. This chapter reviews the literature on relations between emotion dysregulation and internalizing disorders, with specific attention to the treatment of emotion dysregulation as a transdiagnostic focus. It describes several commonly used therapy approaches, considering how each targets emotion dysregulation. It also reviews the efficacy of programs with regard to reducing maladaptive emotion regulation strategies.
