Abstract
SUMMARYThis review discusses the evidence on the role of vitamin D in multiple sclerosis (MS) and whether vitamin D supplementation is effective for the management of MS. People with MS are at high risk of vitamin D deficiency, osteoporosis and fractures. Observational data suggest that higher vitamin D levels are associated with lower relapse risk and there is promising evidence on its effect on MRI measures, disability progression, mental health and fatigue. However, there is currently insufficient randomized controlled trial evidence to recommend vitamin D supplementation with the aim to improve those outcomes.
