Abstract

The OMNI-Max anchor is a recently developed gravity-installed deepwater anchor. It features an omni-directional mooring arm placed toward the anchor tip that is designed to force the anchor to dive deeper into stronger soils to find the required capacity. However, the mechanisms underlying anchor diving are not yet fully understood. After reviewing available centrifuge tests investigating the diving performance of the anchor, this paper presents a numerical analysis to establish the yield surface of the anchor under combined loading. It is subsequently used within a plasticity approach, and compared with large deformation analysis to study the anchor trajectory under chain loading.
