Towards more efficient objective tests of hearing thresholds: Phase based detection of cortical auditory responses

Abstract

© 2017 IEEE. Automated detection of the cortical auditory evoked potential (CAEP) allows for objective hearing threshold estimation, useful for non-compliant or non-capable individuals. Two methods, the commonly used Hotelling T2 statistic (which assumes stimulus-locked responses) and the Rayleigh statistic (which does not) were implemented to detect CAEPs. Results showed significant improvements using the Rayleigh statistic at 40 and 60 dB sensation levels. We have provided further evidence that the CAEP is a useful measure for hearing threshold estimation, and improvements to automated detection are possible.
