What the Dickens: Exploring the role of canonical texts in mediating national identity in subject English in Australia

This chapter will draw on the rich resources of the ALIAS database and build on previous analytical and conceptual work on Dickens's circulation and uses in colonial Australia (Mirmohamadi and Martin), and his impact on texts set for study in senior secondary level (McLean Davies "Magwich Madness") in order to explore the changing role of Dicken's novels in Australian versions of subject English.
