Fire performance of polymer-based composites for maritime infrastructure

Abstract

The fire performance of fiber-reinforced polymer composites used in naval ships, submarine and maritime structures are reviewed and discussed in this work. Polymer composites has been developed and used for wide range of applications in aircraft, spacecraft, boats, ships, automobiles, civil infrastructure, sporting goods and consumer products grown at an impressive rate over the last 50 years. In particular, the use of composites for naval vessels continues to grow in coming years for various applications including decks, bulkheads, propellers, propulsion shafts, pipes, pumps, and other machinery parts.
