The law of democracy is an emerging and fast growing discipline in a number of countries, notably the United States. Grouping together the areas of law that establish, shape and maintain democracy, this ﬁeld reﬂects a constructive effort to break with the past. As legal analysis followed its usual course of dissecting laws and judicial doctrines, democracy disappeared into its component parts, a forest obscured by a focus on each individual tree, each individual tree increasingly isolated from the others.
