Abstract
Until relatively recently, the EU’s interest and role with regard to anti-doping in sport was very much secondary to that taken by the Council of Europe. Since the publication of its White Paper on Sport in 2007, the EU Commission, together with Member States, and in conjunc-tion with the Council of Europe, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), has sought ways to better coordinate the various different global actions that are being taken to combat the problem of doping in sport.
