Abstract

Information technology has become an increasingly important tool in antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) programs. There is a wide variety of computerized decision support systems (CDSS) that can effectively support AMS, either through prescriber-centered decision support (such as approval systems, alerts, and order sets in electronic prescribing systems) or through systems based approaches such as infection surveillance programs. The AMS team should consider existing IT infrastructure and resources when planning to implement CDSS.
