Foreign direct investment and new local land development in developing countries

Abstract

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is one of the key drivers to economic growth in globalising business environments. The FDI literature has long emphasised the spatial patterns and the economic impacts of FDI on the recipient cities. However, how inward FDI is associated with land development at a regional scale has not been a research focus despite the growing volume of FDI flows. This topic is critical particularly in developing countries where industrial infrastructure and decent housing are limited and, thus, new land development is necessary.
