In the list of playing apparel recorded by the Elizabethan actor Edward Alleyn (c.1601–02), there is a reference to ‘i cloth of gould candish his stuf’ in the second column (item ten, under ‘Gowns’) which has proved to be remarkably elusive. This note identifies Captain Thomas Cavendish as the character in question and 'The New World's Tragedy' as the likely lost play in which he feature.
